Goodwill of Mississippi Welcomes Students from The Canopy School for Hands-On Learning Experience

Goodwill Industries of Mississippi recently welcomed students from The Canopy School for an engaging, hands-on tour of our Centre Street facility. The visit offered students a behind-the-scenes look at how donations move through our organization and how community support fuels the mission of Goodwill.

During the tour, students learned about the lifecycle of a donation — from intake and sorting to pricing and placement in our retail stores. They saw firsthand how each donated item contributes to job training, workforce development, and programs that support individuals across Mississippi.

The students also rolled up their sleeves and helped with some tasks during their visit, giving them a real-world glimpse into daily operations. Their enthusiasm and curiosity made the experience both fun and meaningful.

A highlight of the day came when two Goodwill team members, Colleen and Sky, shared their personal stories with the group. Both employees spoke about their roles, what they’ve learned along the way, and how Goodwill has positively impacted their lives. Their experiences provided the students with an authentic and inspiring perspective on the importance of mission-driven work.
