Last week, representatives from Goodwill Industries of Mississippi traveled to Washington, D.C. to join other Goodwill leaders from across the country in a united effort to advocate for policies that support workforce development.
Our time on Capitol Hill was filled with meaningful conversations with lawmakers, sharing the stories of the individuals and families we serve, and emphasizing the critical role Goodwill plays in helping people overcome barriers to employment. We spoke about the importance of sustained investment in job training programs, literacy initiatives, and supportive services that help people not just find jobs, but build careers.
These visits were more than policy conversations, they were an opportunity to highlight the real impact happening every day in Mississippi communities thanks to the support of Goodwill donors, shoppers, and partners. From preparing individuals for high-demand industries to providing free career services at our Career Centers, we shared how our mission translates to real-world outcomes.
We were proud to represent the voices of those we serve, including second-chance citizens, individuals with disabilities, and others often left behind in the workforce. We also had the chance to connect with other Goodwill leaders nationwide, learning from each other and uniting around our shared vision: creating opportunity for all.
These efforts reaffirmed what we already know: when community organizations and lawmakers work together, we can make real progress in building stronger, more inclusive economies.
